Priest River is located in the scenic panhandle of Idaho, ~75 miles from the Canadian border and ~7 miles from Washington State. The city itself is divided in half by Highway 2, which accesses Spokane to the west and Sandpoint to the East. The north half of Priest River is further split in two by Highway 57, the sole highway access to Priest Lake, Coolin, and other towns. Also present in town is an elementary school, junior high school, high school, local airport, several parks, churches, skate park, banks, newly expanded grocery store, shopping areas, restaurants, bars, and of course the large historic district of which the Charbonneau Hotel rests on the outskirts of, and much more.

This area features an abundance of nature and nature based recreation and activities. Situated near the Selkirk Mountains, this area can best be described as a mountain & river geography, with open fields, forests, rivers, lakes, beaches and more within a 50 mile radius.

For outdoor recreationists, Priest River and the surrounding area of Priest Lake, Lake Pend Oreille, Priest River, Pack River, Pend Oreille River, Schweitzer Mountain, and many more means nothing short of paradise year round. From hiking to biking, skiing to swimming, boating to flying, mountain climbing, kayaking, fishing...
...this area has it all within driving distance.

The City of Priest River and the surrounding area have undergone great growth since the year 2000. The reasoning is obvious: this area is paradise. The clean air, low crime rate, friendly people and low cost of living combined with the year-round recreational abundance of activities and close proximity to an International airport (Spokane) means small town living - in paradise - at a fraction of the cost - and not too far away from big cities and travel. Since 2000, population and real estate values have continued to steadily rise in all of North Idaho, making this area one of the hottest real estate markets in all of the United States. However, as other cities such as Sandpoint and Couers D'Alene have skyrocketed, Priest River remains one of the last few cities to experience the tremendous growth surge of the new millenium.

Weather in North Idaho is very seasonal, and exceptionally beautiful year round. Summer temperatures reach peaks in the mid-90's, and winter generally bottoms in the teens or low 20's. Rain in the spring and fall and snow in the winter occurs, but all county roads are plowed and sanded on a regular basis.

Looking North past the Hotel.

The Historic Hotel Charbonneau is located at 207 Wisconsin Street, just two blocks from the city's United States Post Office, and within walking distance of several restaurants, antique shops, the marina, several bars, a riverside county park and docks, two other city parks and much more. Just over 1 block away is the Pend Oreille River, which is over 100 yards wide and flows at just 1-2 nauts. Wisconsin Street is perhaps the most important street in all of Priest River, which includes the Merritt Bridge, the only crossing of the Pend Oreille River for seven miles. This connects the all of the homes and businesses on the southern side of the river with highway 2, located just 1 block from the Hotel. This means the Hotel Charbonneau sits on prime commercial real estate, with significant daily vehicle traffic and located right on the route of several of Priest River's parades such as the yearly car club parade.
